Karabo’s
horrific incident
The incident of the late Karabo Mokoena has brought so
much controversy in the country. She was killed and burned by her boyfriend;
this made so many people furious especially in the social media site. This
trended for almost 3 days before she was buried. Her friends started the
movement of “#MenareTrash’’ on twitter and it even went on Facebook causing
some debate.
So many people showed support more especially girls, but
other hooligans ‘boys’ were taking this as a joke defending this issue of men
are trash. This is all because it covers the whole range of men; the movement
of men are trash it shows support, on what Karabo’s boyfriend did. It is wrong and people should be aware of
such incident. Boys on the social media, tried to defend this issue saying why
did they not do any trend as woman are trash with the saga of Senzo Meyiwa,
when he was killed by his girlfriend. Honestly we cannot compare the two
incidents, with the issue of Senzo Meyiwa it is different he was killed on
self-defence. This proves that men are really Trash.
Poor Karabo as we have heard, her boyfriend was abusive
in the relationship. So many people like her are suffering from such toxic relationships,
and they just scared to voice out. I am happy that the trend of #MenareTrash on
twitter helped some youngsters, as a lady named Alexandra Buki Deen shared on
how she survived an attack by a man who kidnaped her. On her tweet she
mentioned that her only way to survive was to jump out of the car, which left
her with bruises and broken teeth “Jumping out of this car was my only way out.
Because he was still holding on to my arm‚ the car dragged me for a few
seconds. When I opened my eyes I had to get up and run”. Other ladies also
shared their past personal experience with their boyfriends/men who have been
abusive to them.
It is really sad, to think that the man who killed Karabo
helped the family to look for the body knowing enough that he is the one who
killed her. This is really heart-breaking, who does such to a human being? This
is cruelty on a high level. Thank God because it is said that he confessed,
guilty conscious will get on your nerves sometimes. At least the man is going
through court for what he has done, I strongly believe that there is justice in
South Africa and the man will get a sentence which he deserves.
This incident did not start with the late Karabo Mokoena,
it has been happening for a very long time to woman. Woman must be brave enough
to say out loud if a man is being trash to them. The justice system should take
care of such cases very serious, a man who abuse woman is not man enough.
